My commute experiment
Since May 1st I’ve been tracking my commuting habits via Redmond Trip Reduction Program website. Here are some interesting personal stats.
In the last 106 days I’ve…
- Drove alone 6 times
- Carpooled once
- Road the bus 50 times
- Worked from home 11 times
- Biked to work 3 times (need to do this more)
- Took 7 vacation days
Also, I’ve biked to the bus stop around 60% of the time (didn’t start that until late May, I think). Of course, this doesn’t include the weekends.
According to the website I’ve had the following impact:
- LBS OF CO2 REDUCED: 1,560 lbs
- GALLONS OF GAS SAVED: 82 gallons
- MILES OF ALT COMMUTE LOGGED: 1,712 miles
- VEHICLE TRIPS SAVED: 57 trips (looks like they don’t count telecommuting)
I’ve definitely been transformed into a mass transit commuter. I really hate driving my car, unless it is for pure enjoyment. If I only drove a car occasionally, I’d be fine. In fact, I’m selling my Volvo and we are now a 2 car family (three drivers and another almost 16).
Thank God for the Microsoft Connector!
